 Fall Salmon

Klamath, Trinity, Eel, Van Duzen, Smith, and Chetco Rivers

King Salmon fishing begins in August on the Klamath River. Most of the fish are between 8 and 15 pounds but fish over 40 pounds are sometimes caught. During the peak season in September we have averaged 15 to 25 fish per day with as many as 50 fish hooked and released over the past five years. On the Klamath jet boat trips are run on our 23 Willie Predator. We book for a minimum of three anglers on these trips and can comfortably accommodate groups to five. We have as many as four other guides working with us on these trips and can arrange trips for larger groups. This is our busiest time of year and recommend you make reservations well in advance.

In October we move up into the Trinity river and offer full day drift boat trips for Salmon & Steelhead. The Trinity is renown for it's incredible scenery and remote access. Many of these trips will be through the Trinity Gorge where other boats or anglers are far and few between.

In November and early December we fish on the Eel, Van Duzen, Smith and Chetco where the angler has the opportunity to catch a true trophy Salmon. The average size for these rivers is 15 to 25 pounds but we do see a few fish over 40 pounds every season. Which river we fish depends on where the best current action is taking place and flows.

 Winter Steelhead

Trinity, Smith, Mattole, Mad, and Eel Rivers

Fishing for these silvery acrobats begins in mid-September on the Trinity and mid-December on all the other rivers. These great fighting fish are sure to thrill even the most seasoned fisherman. We primarily fish the Smith, Mattole, Mad and Eel systems on the drift boat.

Average size is 8 to 12 lbs of pure action. Steelhead over 20 pounds are caught each year. The California state record tipped the scales at over 27 pounds.

 Spring Salmon

May Through July is "Springer" time on the lower Klamath river. Spring run Salmon arrive in the system in mid-May but do not spawn until the Fall. Shaped like footballs they arrive in the river with huge stores of belly fat to sustain them on their long journey. Springers are considered the best eating of all salmon and are highly prized by anglers due to their incredible fight. This is a spinner fishery where we anchor up in the traveling lanes and intercept the salmon as they migrate up river. This trip includes a full breakfast cooked right on the boat that consists of eggs, hashbrowns ham or sausage served hot while you fish.
